The Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicked off their inaugural season in 1976, and things didn’t go exactly as planned.
The team lost its first 26 games. But the Buccaneers can hold their heads high and celebrate the fact that despite the rocky start to their NFL lives, they managed to right the ship through the draft and trades, eventually winning a championship in Super Bowl XXXVII against the Oakland Raiders.
While the Buccaneers of the past decade have looked more like the hapless bunch of the early years, the arrival of new head coach Bruce Arians has brought a wave of optimism. Buccaneers fans are hoping a return to the glory days is no longer a pipe dream.
With the NFL celebrating it’s 100th anniversary this upcoming season, what better time than now to count down the top 100 Buccaneers players in franchise history?
The following list was compiled based on criteria such as statistics, popularity and overall contribution to the team. Naturally, players from the 2002 championship season may rank higher on this list than they would had they not won a Super Bowl.
With that, let’s take a trip down memory lane.
